Researchers

Director

Alberto Faraggi

Prof. Alberto Faraggi did his undergraduate and M.Sc. in Physics studies at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). He then obtained his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Michigan. Between 2012 and 2017 he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Universidade de São Paulo and PUC, after which he became a Professor at Universidad Andrés Bello. In 2021 he was selected for the Associates Programme (2022-2027) at ICTP. He joined PUC as an Associate Professor in 2023.

His lines of research include holography, supersymmetry and supergravity, string theory, Wilson loops, and other related topics.

Alternate Director

Rodrigo Soto

Rodrigo is a theoretical physicist specialized in condensed matter. He graduated as a civil engineer from UTFSM and holds a MSc. in Sciences with a mention in Physics from the same university. He obtained his PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Currently, he is an assistant professor at PUC.

His interests are the study of strongly correlated systems, non-conventional superconductivity, topological phases of matter, unidimensional systems and connections between high energy physics and condensed matter such as the holographic duality.

Researcher

Rodrigo Olea

Dr. Rodrigo Olea obtained his PhD in Physics at U. Chile, and was a postdoctoral researcher at four different institutions in Chile and abroad between 2001 and 2008. He was also an associate researcher during two years at PUCV, and currently is a full professor at UNAB.

His research interest is high energy physics, focused in gravitation, holography, and the Gauge/Gravity duality.

Researcher

Olivera Miskovic

Dr. Olivera Miskovic received her MSc in theoretical physics at U. Belgrade, Serbia, and her PhD in physics at U. Santiago, Chile. After two postdoctoral positions (at PUC and PUCV), she obtained a permanent position at PUCV in 2008. She was a long-term visitor at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics during a year. Between 2014 and 2019, she was appointed director of postgraduate programs in physics. She is currently a full professor at PUCV.

Her research interests lie in the areas of black hole physics, field theory, holography, and (super)gravity theories in diverse dimensions. During her career, she has been actively collaborating with other researchers in Chile and abroad, giving a number of minicourses and lectures.

Researcher

Hernán González

Hernán has a PhD in Physics from PUC and did postdoctoral researchers at Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium and the Technische Universität Wien in Austria. Currently, he is an assistant professor at UAI.

He is interested on the application of general relativity to the study of the space time structure in situations where the gravitational field is intense. His research is focused in the construction of extensions of the AdS/CFT correspondence to asymptotically flat spaces, which are a good approximation to the geometry of the universe.

Researcher

Francisco Rojas

Francisco obtained his PhD in Physics at the University of Florida. He then did postdoctoral research stays, first, at the State University of Sao Paulo (UNESP), and then as a postdoctoral visitor at the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP), U. of California, Santa Barbara. He has a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (PUC) and a M.Sc. in Physics (PUC). He is currently an associate profesor at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (UAI).

His lines of research are string theory, quantum gravity, scattering amplitudes, holographic dualities, and more recently, celestial holography and related topics.

Researcher

Vladimir Juričić

Vladimir has been a faculty member at UTFSM since 2021 and at NORDITA since 2015. He obtained his PhD in Physics in 2006 at Utrecht University, and subsequently held various postdoctoral positions in Canada, Germany and the Netherlands.

His research interests lie in the area of condensed matter theory, in particular, topological quantum matter and quantum critical phenomena.
