Project

The Anillo for Holography and its applications to High Energy Physics, Quantum Gravity and Condensed Matter Systems, or HolographyCL for short, seeks to deepen our understanding of gauge/gravity dualities and their applications to different physical systems. Holography has established itself as a powerful tool to study strongly correlated quantum systems by providing an alternative description in terms of weakly coupled, classical gravitational systems. Conversely, in its modern understanding, a UV complete theory of Quantum Gravity can be defined in terms of its field-theoretic dual, allowing us to address important questions such as the microscopic origin of black hole entropy. These ideas have driven a big part of the research efforts in Theoretical High Energy Physics community for 25 years.

One of the aims of the project is to foster and strengthen the collaboration between the High Energy Physics and Condensed Matter Theory communities. To this purpose, we have assembled a multifaceted team of researchers with different backgrounds and areas of expertise, ranging from General Relativity, Supersymmetry and String Theory to Superconductivity, Topological Quantum Field Theory and Phase Transitions.

Another important objective is to promote the training of students and early career researchers. During the past few decades Chile has experienced a substantial growth in the number of young scientists working in High Energy Physics. With this project we want to enhance the engagement of our students and postdocs with the international community by promoting extended visits abroad and participation in schools, workshops, and conferences.

Finally, throughout the length of the project we will organize different activities aimed at disseminating the elegant and powerful ideas behind the Holographic Principle in non-academic environments, thus helping to bring science closer to our communities. Outreach is an essential goal of ours.
