Olivera Miskovic on 25 years of the AdS/CFT Correspondence!

Yesterday, November 16, we wished a happy birthday to one of the most revolutionary ideas of modern times in physics and the most cited article in theoretical physics: The AdS/CFT correspondence!

Given this remarkable event, Dra. Olivera Miskovic gave a seminar to celebrate and introduce this subject to the students of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso. Here we leave the abstract.

Abstract:

Exactly 25 years ago, in November 1997, a manuscript by Argentine physicist Juan Maldacena from Harvard University appeared on arXiv.org, under the code hep-th/9711200, which would introduce an extraordinary change in theoretical physics. In the article it is conjectured, within the framework of string theory, that conformal field theories (CFT) can be seen as a “hologram” of a theory of gravity in Anti-de Sitter (AdS) space. The article has more than 18,000 citations and has become one of the most cited in the arXiv. In this talk, we will address, in simple words, the idea and reasons why the famous correspondence still has a powerful influence on contemporary physics.

The activity was full of students and professors from the university excited to commemorate this event and learn more about this topic!
