abstract = {Within a holographic framework, we explore the physical consequences of embedding Einstein gravity with negative cosmological constant in Conformal Gravity in four dimensions. In the bulk, the procedure is equivalent to Holographic Renormalization, as the Einstein-AdS action appears augmented by the correct boundary counterterms. In codimension-2, 4D-Conformal Gravity induces a 2D conformal invariant leads to a Renormalized Area for minimal surfaces. For arbitrary surfaces, this proposal extends the notion of renormalized area to the energy functionals as Willmore Energy and Reduced Hawking Mass. In particular, this procedure may be though as a more geometric approach to the computation of Holographic Entanglement Entropy for CFTs dual to 4D Einstein gravity.},

To further clarify this issue, we compute holographically 2- and 4-point correlation functions using the aforementioned boundary conditions and study their transformation properties. Concretely, motivated by the dual description of some multi-parametric families of Wilson loops in ABJM theory, we look at the excitations of an open string around an AdS_{2}⊂AdS_{4}×ℂℙ^{3} worldsheet, thus obtaining correlators of operators inserted along a 1-dimensional defect in N=6 super Chern-Simons-matter theory at strong coupling. Of the two types of boundary conditions analyzed, only one leads to the expected functional structure for conformal primaries; the other exhibits covariance under translations and rescalings but not under special conformal transformations.},

abstract = {Topological states of quantum matter, featuring exotic robust, topologically and symmetry-protected boundary states, are at the forefront of research in the modern condensed matter physics. In the last decade, it has been understood that the crystalline symmetries play a fundamental role in the emergence and the protection of the topological phases, yielding a landscape of topological crystalline materials, with the topological lattice defects, e.g. dislocations, playing an important role in their probing. However, crystals are bound to live in three spatial dimensions, which thereby provides a natural constraint on the possible topological crystalline phases. Motivated by this, I will consider projected topological branes, which are holographic images of higher-dimension topological crystals on lower-dimensional branes, thereby providing the window into the landscape of the topological phase in spaces of dimensionality higher than three. I will discuss some of their general features, such as bulk-boundary correspondence, their probing through the lattice dislocations, and their manifestations in the transport, e.g. of the chiral anomaly. Finally, some of the possible experimental realizations and future directions in the study of projected topological branes will be highlighted},
